It was absolutely incredible when Windows XP first came out, it was a revolutionary! I have many, many, fond memories of using Windows XP. The operating system looked beautiful, was easy to use, was somewhat light-weight, and fast too. This was when we had moved away from Windows 98 and move on to the Windows XP era. I did not really miss Windows 98 at the time to be honest since games, such as Quake II (1997), also worked on Windows XP too.
I cannot remember much about the computers we have had that have had Windows XP. For a long period of time I used to use a Sony VAIO laptop with Windows XP on, whilst my older brother would use a Windows XP desktop computer. By far, the desktop computer was a lot better for gaming. I used to enjoy broswing the internet on the VAIO. I even did website design with it, on free website builders such as Piczo and Freewebs. I had missed the GeoCities faze that many had experienced.
Once my brother purchased a brand new Windows XP computer, the old one was put into my bedroom for the very first time. Once I had my very own desktop computer, that is when computer gaming further took off for me. I had been playing games on my brother's PlayStation 1 beforehand. My brother introduced me to gaming utilities and marketplaces such as Xfire, Steam and Fraps video recorder.
Whilst it had been only me who had used the Sony VAIO laptop, once I had my very own desktop computer, I stopped using the Sony VAIO laptop entirely. I had many fond memories of it. It was only used when a friend would come round my house and we would play Empire Earth (2001) together via LAN (local area network).
With the arrival of Windows 7, users - including myself - began to leave Windows XP behind. I missed Windows XP but understood it was the time to move on to the better, more powerful operating system. One thought I had to myself was how I wish Windows XP could have been upgraded and updated for modern times, with added features. Like a Windows XP 2.
